To help you make informed choices over which ward you would like to work, detailed below is further information to help you when choosing where to work your shift:

Location: Herts & Essex Hospital (CM23 5JH)

Speciality: The Rehabilitation unit has 28 beds between two wards, Oxford and Cambridge. Four of these beds are designated Stroke Rehabilitation Beds that are supported by the East & North Herts Early Supported Stroke Discharge Team. The unit caters for patients who need rehabilitation following their stay in an acute setting or need some extra support from the community. The unit has its own occupational therapy and physiotherapy team with a gym and OT assessment room.

Location: Peace Childrens Hospice (Watford WD17 3EW)

Speciality: The usual stay is up to six weeks during which the staff strive to help patients reach their potential and maximise their independence. Patients are supported who have had a stroke, medical, surgical or orthopaedic illness.

Location: Danesbury Neuroligical Centre (Welwyn AL6 9SB)

Speciality: Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust’s Danesbury House Neurological Centre has 17 neurological rehabilitation beds. We have specialist physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, dieticians, psychologists, nurses. The maximum length of stay is 42 days.

Speciality: The Discharge Home To Assess Team respond to system pressures and support patient flow by providing supported discharge to patients that have a health need and require ongoing therapy and care to enable them to return home sooner.

Speciality: The Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital (QVM), as part of the Herts Community NHS Trust’s Intermediate Care Team, caters for patients who need rehabilitation following a stay in an acute hospital.

They provide care primarily to patients who are housebound and need to be seen in their own homes including residential and nursing homes

Speciality: The healthcare team is made up of 82 fulltime and part time healthcare professionals and support staff. As well as routine healthcare, the team also provide 19 specialist services such as drugs and alcohol support and mental health care.
Every new inmate is seen by one of our nurses when he arrives and given a full health check. Thanks to the excellent electronic patient record system, the team usually have reviewed the inmate’s healthcare record before they arrive.
